The 2009 Weipa Fishing Classic will be held from Friday 5th - Sunday 7th June, coinciding with the Queen's Birthday long weekend at the Weipa Campus, Western Cape College, Weipa, Cape York, Far North Queensland. The 2009 Classic will be run solely for community benefit, with all proceeds supporting a large number of local community and sporting groups.
The Classic is the region’s most iconic annual event, providing sponsors with a significant opportunity to promote their products and services in the region as well as luring a large contingent of visiting sport fishers and 4-wheel drive tourists from intra and inter state.
The 2008 Weipa QantasLink Fishing Classic, also staged on the Queens Birthday long week-end in June, at the peak of Cape York’s tourist season attracted over 1100 competitors, with an average nightly crowd of 3000 attending the event during each night of entertainment..... read more about the classic
