About the Classic
It’s on again, the biggest event in Cape York. The dates for the 2008 Weipa Fishing Classic have been set to coincide with the Queens Birthday long weekend, Friday 06 June through to Sunday 08 June 2008. The 2008 Classic will be run solely for community benefit, with all proceeds supporting a large number of local community and sporting groups.
While this is only the third year the Classic has been held, initial planning indicates that the 2008 Weipa Fishing Classic has all the hallmarks of being the biggest and best yet for the town of Weipa.
First Prize has been confirmed as a Sea Jay 4.4m Escape Sports fitted with a 50hp Yamaha outboard on a Dunbier trailer, including safety gear.
The Weipa Fishing Classic is becoming a “must attend” event and is one of the largest fishing competitions in Queensland. With volunteers from throughout the community to ensure its success, the Weipa Fishing Classic continues to experience steady growth. Predicted nominations this year are 1500 competitors, which we believe confirms our commitment to the Weipa Community and our sponsors. The Weipa Fishing Classic continues to be a huge success.
